Place Value
These sections can be read silently or aloud. Discussion of the examples can be utilized. To answer the interactive questions, students must begin the decimal with a zero and round to the nearest hundredth. Continue on to the "batting average problem." A practice sheet can be assigned at this time.

 The Rounding Decimal
Screens lend themselves to an open class lesson. Students take turns reading aloud. The Babe Ruth problem is the hub of this page. As students develop a strategy, the examples and definitions will aid in explaining the use of the skills they will need. Allow students to work in groups. Let them work at their own pace. Students that finish can print out the practice sheet and begin working. After the several students have gotten the answer correct, allow them to explain their strategy.
