During the cold war, the
government was looking for ways to get our spies out from behind the Iron
Curtain. They tried using the same technique used by the postal service to pickup mail bags by air. Early attempts using sheep proved to be dismal failures. Once an Air Force officer was successfully picked up, the decision was made by Norm Rintou, Bill Burkhart and Barnstormin' Bernie to perform the stunt in public. |
